1. Books Matter in Black Education
Melanin Origins comes from a community of mothers, fathers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, sisters, and brothers. Our simple wish is to educate our children.
Melanin Origins believes in starting at a young age. Eventually, our children will see themselves as movers of the world rather than passive participants. Then we can affect change.
2. Confidence in Black Culture
Our young leaders must be taught cultural confidence–pride in Black culture, people, and institutions.
Melanin Origins believes that instilling cultural confidence takes time and needs to happen at a young age. The building is slow: brick-by-brick.
Each book we publish is like a brick. Read one book, add a brick. So, we're busy creating new books as fast as possible, and we're always looking for new voices.
3. Giving Children a Chance To See Themselves In History
All Melanin Origins' books feature the same hero: your child.
Cast as Madam C.J. Walker, W.E.B. Du Bois, and Queen Esther, Black children get a chance to see themselves as heroes and leaders.
4. It Only Takes One Book
Melanin Origins was created to tell stories that our Black children, and the world, are missing. Will you join us?
“Excellence is to do a common thing in an uncommon way.”
